Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine uses a variety of agents with low doses of X-ray like activity for different types of exams. The underlying principle is utilizing small doses with a very sensitive external camera to track biologic activity of different body systems. Examples include but are not limited to studies of the skeletal system, liver and gallbladder, kidneys and lungs.

For certain cases, in addition to studying the thyroid, treatments of thyroid disease can also be provided.

Depending on the type of exam your doctor has requested the agent may be administered by IV or orally.
